Butwal Revenue Investigation Office seizes around Rs 35 million in illegal currency so far this FY

LUMBINI, June 12: The Revenue Investigation Office, Butwal, has seized illegal currency worth Rs 34.655 million so far in the current fiscal year. This includes currencies from various countries, including the Nepalese rupee.


Of the total amount confiscated, Rs 19.1 million was in Nepalese currency, while Rs 15.5 million was in Indian currency.

Chief Investigation Officer Bibek Ghimire said Indian nationals are frequently arrested with such illegal money in the Nepal-India border areas.


According to data from the current fiscal year, over Rs 34.6 million in illegal currency has been seized from areas surrounding Butwal, he added.


Ghimire stated that the confiscated foreign currencies include Indian rupees, US dollars, UAE dirhams, and Nepalese rupees. These were impounded following strict surveillance of suspicious groups along the Nepal-India border.


The illegal currency was seized through a joint operation by the Revenue Investigation Office and Nepal Police, the Office further stated.
