Butwal man killed, mother injured in Pahalgam attack: FM Rana

Authorities have confirmed the identity of the Nepali national killed in Tuesday's terrorist attack at Baisaran Meadow in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India.

KATHMANDU, April 23: Authorities have confirmed the identity of the Nepali national killed in Tuesday's terrorist attack at Baisaran Meadow in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India.


Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba announced on X that the victim was Sudip Neupane of Kalikanagar, Ward No. 11, Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City of Rupandehi.

According to Minister Rana, Sudip's mother was also injured in the attack. The mother and son had traveled to Pahalgam on a visit. Rana condemned the incident as a cruel act, stating that no level of condemnation would be enough. She added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in contact with the Indian government to obtain more details about the incident.


The attack claimed 28 lives, including one Nepali national. Indian media reported that the deceased included 26 Indians and two foreign nationals.


More than a dozen people were injured, and with several in critical condition, the death toll could rise. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack and pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice. Home Minister Amit Shah visited Srinagar on Wednesday and met with the victims' families.


Countries around the world, including Nepal, condemned the attack. Authorities shut down schools and colleges in Jammu and Kashmir. Indian media reported that officials heightened security in cities such as Delhi and Mumbai. They are using four special flights to airlift tourists from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai.
