Of the total budget size of about Rs 286 billion, the government has allocated Rs 46 billion for the sector.
“The amount is still insufficient to finance educational infrastructure development and recruit additional teachers. We should spend at least 20 percent of the budget in the sector for better results,” Pandey said, while addressing a function organized to distribute Wai Wai Gyan Udaya Scholarship at Chaudhary Industrial Village in Dumkauli, Nawalparasi.
On the occasion, Minister Pandey distributed scholarship to 76 students. A girl and a boy, who topped SLC examinations from among 18 community schools in Nawalparasi constituency number 1, were among the recipients. Scholarships were also provided to male and female students from marginalized, ethnic and Dalit communities from those schools.
Chaudhary Group, one of the leading industrial houses in the country, also pledged scholarship to a son and a daughter of laborers working in Chaudhary Industrial Village. The scholarship amount stands at Rs 5,000 each.
“The amount will be Rs 10,000 each for a boy and a girl, who secure highest mark in SLC examinations in the district,” said Shiva Prasad Devkota, coordinator of scholarship management committee.
Likewise, Chaudhary Group also provided scholarship to two students pursuing technical education at Manamohan Polytechnical Institute. According to Devkota, the cost of technical education stands at Rs 300,000 per annum and the Group would bear the fee of a male and a female student under its Gyan Udaya Scholarship.
“We decided to support education in community schools because we are not convinced that the government efforts alone would bring positive result in education sector,” said Binod Kumar Chaudhary, president, Chaudhary Group.
Chaudhary, who is also a Constituent Assembly member, said the group would gradually extend scholarships to toppers of all community schools in the district.
