British Charge d' Affairs pays courtesy call on PM

KATHMANDU, June 10: Charge d´ Affairs of British Embassy Sophie Willitts-King paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal at Singha Durbar on Wednesday.



"We discussed long standing bilateral relation between the two countries and the British government´s commitment towards development assistance to Nepal," King told myrepublica.com.



Stating that Britain now has commitment to spend £172 million in the development program in Nepal, she said, "We discussed on the new government´s development agenda as Britain through the British Council and DFID is spending huge budget in development programs in health, economic and education sector in Nepal," King said.



The UK is also a contributor to the Peace Fund and is the highest donor of the Rights, Democracy and Inclusion Fund.



"The UK has also shown serious commitment to help in the peace process of Nepal, for which the Peace Fund has been created," King said.



She also added that from her conversation with the prime minister she gathered that he is "waiting for a decision" from the major coalition partners for the formation of the cabinet.
