As a preparation BPKIHS started a two-day Maxillofacial Prosthodontics workshop. Prosthodontics department of the hospital said the workshop would help doctors to learn more about the latest technologies and the procedure regarding the creation of natural-appearing artificial ears, eyes and noses. According to Pamita Suwal, Chief of Prosthodontics department established under Dentistry department, the new faculty in the hospital will be a blessing for people who have defects in their ear, palate and eye by birth or had to remove these organs due to cancer.
“The people whose eyes, ears or other parts in the mouth were damaged at birth, by accident or disease will really benefit as they will be able to receive implantation of natural like artificial organs to retrieve natural composure of their face,” Dr Suwal informed. She also informed that the new faculty will start immediately after the workshop. The workshop is being participated by 120 doctors and student including 5 doctors from India.
“We have sufficient expert human resources, necessary tools and technology to start the new service. The new service will begin immediately after the workshop ends,” Dr Suwal stated.
According to the information given by the department, artificial nose and ear are made from silicon and implanted in people to rectify the defects. “The implantation has no side-effects and cannot be distinguished from natural organ and is cost effective too,” said Prosthodontics labrotary In-charge
