BoK gets new CEO

KATHMANDU, Feb 25: Board of Directors of Bank of Kathmandu, one of the leading commercial banks of Nepal, has appointed Ajay Shrestha as the Chief Executive Officer.



According to a press statement issued by the bank on Thursday, Shrestha was earlier associated with NMB bank as general manager.[break]



Prior to that, he was the Chief Business officer at BoK. Shrestha has been in the banking Industry for more than two decades now.



Established in March 1995, Bank of Kathmandu now has 33 branches, 6 extension counters and 37 ATM terminals.



Destination Manang 2010 from April 15



Tourism entrepreneurs of Manang district have expressed dissatisfaction with the government decision to restrict Nar and Phoo valley for non-group tourists. They claimed that the decision would discourage tourism activities in the region.



Binod Gurung, President of Tourism Entrepreneur Association of Manang (TEAM) have down heavily upon the government decision terming it “impractical” at a press meet organized to brief on Destination Manang 2010. Destination Manang will be inaugurated on April 15, in Chame, and will last till the end of November 2010.



Gurung said Destination Manang 2010 would be organized to showcase cultural and ethnic diversity with the blend of beautiful sceneries of Manang district. TEAM has planned to organize Grand Mitha, Grand Yartunng( horse racing), live music performance, Badhe Festival, Tilicho Lake Festival, Tarkya, Tho (Deer Festival), Nar and Phoo FAM Trip and open volleyball competition.



Bikram Neupane, president, Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA), also condemned the government decision. He said Manang is the major destination of Himalayan tourism in Nepal and should be supported by all the concerned stakeholders. HRA has provided health service facilities in the Himalayan districts.



NIBL enters twenty-fifth Years



Nepal Investment Bank Limited (NIBL), which is celebrating its 24th anniversary today, opened its 38th branch in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu on Thursday, February 25.



The newly opened branch will be linked through ABBS (Any Branch Banking Services) to all other 37 branches across the country. The key services provided by the branch include deposit and credit facility, foreign exchange, retail banking, import, export, letters of credit, guarantees and remittances, among others.



The bank has also introduced two new products -- Savings Plus Plus and Fixed deposit, whereby the bank gives up to 6% interest on savings account and up to 10% interest on fixed deposit.



Nepal Investment Bank, with the widest networking chain, has extended its ATM in Gaighat and Krishnanagar recently. Now the bank has total of 68 ATM chains and 38 branches across the country.



The bank plans to provide exceptional banking services within all major pockets of the country, both within and outside the Kathmandu valley. In the coming days, the bank plans to extend its access to rural areas as well as urban centers, thereby extending banking services for a larger population.



Vita 500 energy drink launched



Kunwor Trading officially launched Vita 500 Energy Drink amidst a press conference. The drink was lunched by World Cyclist Pushkar Shah, its brand ambassador for Nepal.



Shah, who has completed a tour of numerous countries and is preparing for the Peace Expedition to Mt. Everest this spring, officially launched the product by drinking the product at the meet.



During the press meet, Devendra Kunwor, Managing Director of Kunwor Trading, stated that VitA 500 is competitively priced at Rs 50 per can of 250 ml. The vitamin enriched drink is high on energy, but free of caffeine and preservatives, he added.



Exported by B R International from Korea, the Korean energy drink is popular in numerous countries, including the USA.



Waltham veterinary workshop organized



Driven by the passion for service and care to pets, Pedigree, the leading pet food brand of Mars International India in cooperation with Waltham Center, the world’s leading authority on pet care and nutrition, organized a practical workshop focusing on canine dermatology and pet nutrition today. It was a first-of-its kind event held in the city.



“We believe these workshops may help practicing vets offer better clinical solutions/services to pet owners and alleviate their pets’ problems at an early stage,” said Dr K G Umesh, Regional Waltham Associate, South Asia.



The workshop consisted of clinical rounds and discussion in dermatological cases presented. The focus was on problem-oriented approach (Assessment and Medical Management) to clinical syndromes and current therapy management of skin diseases among dogs. The workshop provided hands-on practice on skin examination, laboratory examination of skin scrapings, cytology, intra-dermal skin tests and other diagnostic tests.



“As per our estimate, more than 60% of pets (dogs and cats) suffer from skin diseases in Nepal,” said Sherwyn Xavier, Market Manager, Indian Sub continent, Mars International India Pvt. Ltd.
