KATHMANDU, Aug 28: An unidentified group detonated a socket bomb near the residence of Vice President Parmananda Jha in Gaurighat at around 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Jha was at home when the blast occurred some 60 meters north of his residence.
The explosion has left one Parvati Khatiwada slightly injured on her neck and shattered windowpanes on the second floor of a nearby house, according to Inspector Santosh Tamang at Metropolitan Police Sector Office, Gaushala. Khatiwada is undergoing treatment at Om Hospital and is reportedly out of danger.
It is still unclear the motive and the group involved behind the explosion. No one has owned up the incident till late evening.
PM condemns the blast
Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has strongly condemned the bomb blast near the residence of Vice President Paramananda Jha. Issuing a press statement late on Friday evening , the prime minister said that the government is committed to punishing those behind the grave criminal act aimed at creating an environment of fear and terror.
“The government will not spare any anti-social elements involved in the incident,” he said.
