Speaking at a program organized to exert pressure on the government to bring full-fledged budget, Kush Kumar Joshi, president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), criticized the lawmakers´ negligence in bringing full-fledged budget.[break]
“We will voluntarily take to the street if the political leaders failed to keep the promise of bringing budget for fiscal year 2010/11 by November 19. Not just entrepreneurs, professional organizations and general people will also join our protest as the delay in budget is affecting everyone,” he added.
Immediate past president of FNCCI Chandiraj Dhakal said it was important to study what is delaying the budget and who is responsible for it. Similarly, Mahesh Lal Pradhan, former president of FNCCI, said the negligence of lawmakers was affecting general people and not the ones who are at the policy making level.
Speaking at the program, Bhaskar Raj Rajkarnikar, vice-president of FNCCI, said the delay in bringing fiscal budget was affecting all development projects and investment plans. “This delay will affect the national economy in the long run,” Rajkarnikar added.
Ram Bahadur Shrestha of Nepal Chamber of Commerce called on the people to blacklist the lawmakers as they have failed to perform the responsibilities assigned to them. “When businessmen don´t pay tax, the government blacklists them. We should start blacklisting lawmakers who have failed to fulfill their duty,” Shrestha said.
President of Professional Alliance for Peace and Democracy (PAPAD), Rameshwar Upadhyaya, called on the parties to forge consensus to form government if the caretaker government is not allowed to bring full-fledged budget.
In the like manner, Dhruba Narayan Shrestha, former president of Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATA), said the delay in bringing fiscal budget has seriously affected the promotion of Nepal Tourism Year 2011. “We have planned the year-long tourism promotional campaign to trigger economic revolution. But we have been failing to implement effective programs due to delay in brining budget,” he added.
FNCCI officials say they would hold another program in the near future to decide their action against the government and the political parties.
