BIRGUNJ, Nov 15: With the end of Tihar festival, preparations for Chhath festival have started in Terai Madhesh district. As Chhath festival is approaching, the various ponds of Birgunj are being specially beautified with decorations with the help of local residents.

The ponds have also been cleaned. Chhath festival has its own importance in Terai. The Ghadiadarwa Pond, Nagwapokhari, Chhapkaiya Pond, Sripur, Ranighat in Birgunj, which have mythological significance in Mithila region, are being cleaned and decorated with the special efforts of the local residents.

As the number of Chhath celebrants continues to grow each year, local markets are bustling with shoppers purchasing essential items for the festival. However, residents have noted a significant increase in the prices of essential goods compared to previous years.

This year, the formal observation of Shashti, which marks the sixth day of the lunar fortnight in the Hindu calendar, is scheduled for November 19. While the main rituals of Chhath begin three days in advance, the enthusiasm and preparations in Birgunj are evident, with the beautification of ponds adding to the festive spirit."
