Bird census starts today

BHARATPUR, Jan 7: Bird census is starting in Nepal from today. Himalayan Nature, under the leadership of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, has started counting birds in all national parks, wetlands and reservoirs of the country.

BHARATPUR, Jan 7: Bird census is starting in Nepal from today. Himalayan Nature, under the leadership of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, has started counting birds in all national parks, wetlands and reservoirs of the country.


National Coordinator of the bird census Dr Hemsagar Baral said that 350 bird experts and conservationists are participating in the census, which will run for three weeks.

Meanwhile, former President of Bird Education Society Sauraha Basu Bidari said that bird census will start from tomorrow in Chitwan. Birds will be counted in Chitwan under the leadership of the Society. Similarly, birds will be counted through a separate group in Nawalpur area of Chitwan National Park.


According to the latest statistics, there are 892 species of birds found in Nepal, whereas Chitwan alone is home to 652 species of them.
