Biratnagar claims fifth position in U-19 cricket

KATHMANDU, March 20: Biratnagar finished fifth in the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament defeating Baitadi by five runs in a rain affected match at the Birendra Sainik Ground in Bhaktapur on Friday.[break]



Batting first Baitadi posted a total of 157. The second innings target was reduced to 151 in 45 overs due to rain. At 32 overs, when the match ended due to rain, Biratnagar needed 125 runs to win and they were 129/3.



Raghu Sunar topscored for Baitadi with 39 runs of 55 balls. Sunar and Santosh Thapa put on an opening stand of 70 runs. No other Batsman, except Kuldeep Khadka (34) scored double figures.



Man of the Match Amit Dahal was the pick of the bowlers for Biratnagar. Amit dismissed the well set openers and also claimed the wicket of Chandra Saud to take his match figures to 4/18 in his ten overs.



Biratnagar had a better opening partnership scoring 83 runs. Rajan Khadgi (41) was caught by Kuldeep of the bowling of Bhuwan Karki, the only wicket taker for Baitadi. Two Biratnagar batsmen were run out. Sunny Pun was unbeaten on 52 with Somesh Yadav on 14 when the match was called off.
