Big 3, UDMF parley over SRC leadership

KATHMANDU, Nov 22: A meeting of top leaders of the three major political parties—UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML—and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) on the leadership of the State Restructuring Commission (SRC) is underway on Tuesday morning.



The meeting, which is taking place at the Peace and Reconstruction Ministery in Singha Durbar, is expected to come up with a common name to head the commission that will make suggestions on the country’s federal model to be adopted in the new constitution.[break]



The leaders during Monday’s talk had failed yield any result after the ruling and opposition parties were divided over the issue of selecting coordinator of the  commission.



The ruling UCPN (Maoist) have proposed human rights activist Padma Ratna Tuladhar or Manik Lal Shrestha, whereas NC has leaders put forth the names of Kedarbhakta Mathema, Kul Chandra Gautam, Krishna Khanal or Bimal Koirala for the position.



Likewise, the CPN-UML has recommended the names of Ganeshman Gurung or Pitambar Sharma for the post.
