KATHMANDU, Nov27: Bhuwan Nagarkoti opened up four-stroke lead after the first round of the Surya Nepal Challenge, the third event under Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2017-18, at par-68 Royal Nepal Golf Club on Monday.
Gokarna Golf Club pro Bhuwan carded five-under 63. Yelamber Singh Adhikari, Deepak Magar, and Dhana Bahadur Thapa are at one-under 67. Rabi Khadka and Surya Prasad Sharma are joint fifth at one-over 69. Kamal Tamang, Krishna Man Rajbahak, Ramesh Nagarkoti, and amateur Phuntshok N Lama are tied seventh at two-over 70.
Bhuwan moves on top after third round
Nepal number-one Shiva Ram Shrestha and second-ranked Sanjay Lama had a bad start with three-over 71, they are tied at 11th place along with Bhuwan Kumar Rokka and Rame Magar.
Among other amateurs Tanka Bahadur Karki scored four-over 72, and Mithun Rai and Subash Ghising are at six-over 74.
A total of 40 players -- 30 pros and 10 amateurs -- are taking part in the four-day tournament organized by Nepal PGA, under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. The cut will be applied after the second day with top 21 pros, 6 amateurs and any amateurs surviving the pro cut for the final two rounds. Out of the total cash purse of Rs 420,000, the top three pros will receive Rs 80,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 35,000 respectively.
MOFA seniors in golf training
Considering the importance of sports diplomacy, secretary and joint secretaries of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) are taking golf training course in Kathmandu.
A professional golfer is providing basic golf training that includes both theoretical and practical aspects of golf. It is believed that golf skills will help Nepali diplomats develop better relations and build contacts in order to promote Nepal’s diplomatic relations both at home and abroad.
