That was a different time, different environment and different culture, enunciated Chand who says the lifestyle of youngsters representing the modern mobile generation of today is way advanced than what she went and experienced through in her time.
“Youth of today are too outgoing, well-educated and career-oriented. They are open to everything, that is, from opening minds to different dimensions of thoughts to clothes to meet the fashion statement,” she chuckled. “My time was different. We didn’t have choices. And with that, we were happy with what little we had. I’m happy to realize we had limited choices to make. Today people are fond of tasting many flavors and still they are never satisfied.”

Chand, of course, regrets to have missed those fun and frolic which she could have experienced had she not been an actress.
Appearing before royals, performing for the audiences, doing some movies and tour performances took most of her young days. Taken as a woman with few words by many, Chand however loved talking to people and liked socializing during her early days of life. Having come to this day, she looks at her daughters and realizes how she could have made memorable memories if she had some spare time to enjoy in those days.
“There was no time even to remove the makeup,” she shared.
Though she says she did not get to enjoy her youth completely, she admits to being attracted to a few men and enjoyed those goose bumps in her stomach whenever she was attracted to anyone. Still a graceful lady, many were equally attracted to Chand when she was doing films and dramas. She still remembers how actor Harihar Sharma became her fan and asked her out for a coffee.
“Well, that wasn’t any official date. We both respected each other. Maybe we were in love, but not with each other but with each other’s work,” Chand added with a juvenile smile.
She revealed that she had a big dream of getting married to an army officer. She loved looking at those men clad in camouflage, walking with discipline.
“I did dream of an army person to come to me on a horse and take me away as his bride. But fate had something else for me. And I’m thankful to God for not fulfilling my desire to get married to an army officer. My husband (Michael Chand) is the best man for me. Fate was kind enough to me to make me come across my hubby. We fell in love and we are happily married,” Chand went to some flashbacks.
For an actress who had to earn not just for herself but for a few other members of her family, working was more important than partying around.
Whenever it’s about film actors, the controversies are often tagged along.
But with Chand, she stays neat and clean and says she never had to come across any rumors with her colleagues. Actor and painter Uttam Nepali was too senior for her to be tagged with her while many others were junior to her. She is still unaware of why most of her fellow actors were scared talking to her. Maybe that was why no one dared to propose to her, she says.
“I repeat – it was a different world. We were not like the youths of today who have no respect for their seniors, not even to their moms and dads. During my youth, people cared about others’ feelings and respected opinions. But these days, these things have vanished. Everyone is extrovert and they think they know everything and have nothing to listen to from others. Maybe I am too old to understand the youth of today,” Chand concluded politely.
