Bhairahawa, Kathmandu set date for final

KATHMANDU, June 10: Region No 4 Bhairahawa have set up title clash with Region No 3 Kathmandu in the ongoing Springwood National T20 Cricket Tournament. In the decisive match for the final place between Bhairahawa and Region No 1 Biratnagar on Wednesday, Bhairahawa registered a three-wicket win as man-of -the-match Sagar Khadka shined with the ball. Bhairahawa secured spot for the final with eight points. [break]



Khadka claimed three important wickets in his four-over spell conceding 21 runs as Biratnagar were dismissed for a paltry 106 runs for nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs.



Likewise, Basanta Regmi took two wickets and Lal Bahadur Adhikari and Vijay Thapa took one wicket each.



For Biratnagar, Mehboob Alam scored 27 runs off 20 balls with two fences and a six before being bowled out by Thapa. Likewise, Sunny Pun and Ajay Rajbanshi who added 19 runs each were the other batsmen to reach a double figure. Biratnagar got 16 extra runs.



Following the run chase, Antim Thapa of Bhairahawa hit 36 runs off 37 balls with two sixes as the team achieved the target by losing seven wickets in 19.3 overs. Manoj Baishya (19) and skipper Shakti Gauchan (14) played a 38-run partnership. Amrit Bhattarai (10) and Basanta Regmi (11) were the other batsmen to reach double figures.



Ajay Rajabanshi dismissed three batsmen while Alam and Raj Kumar Pradhan took one wicket each of Bhairahawa.



In another match of the day, Region No 6 Baitadi beat Region No 5 Nepalgunj by four wickets to register their second win of the tournament. With the loss, Nepalgunj remained at the bottom of the table with no points.



Electing to bat first, Nepalgunj scored 86 runs for eight wickets. Fifth order batsman Anupam Singh scored the highest 23 runs unbeaten facing 31 deliveries with two fences. Subendu Pandey who scored 14 off 29 was the only other batsman to reach a double figure for the team.



Bhuwan Karki, Prem Budal and Naresh Budhayer of Baitedi claimed two wickets each of Nepalgunj and Chandra Saud and Dhirendra Chand dismissed one batsman each.



Following the run chase, Baitedi achieved the target in 19 overs losing six wickets. Man-of-the-match Binod Bhandari hit 24 runs off 32 balls with three boundaries before being stumped by wicket keeper Mahesh Chhetri and Naresh Budhayer (17) was the other batsman to reach a double figure. Budhayer was bowled out by Tajuddin Halwai.



Subendu Pandey claimed four wickets in his four-over spell conceding 13 runs but it could not help his team win the match. Sandeep Shrestha and Tajuddin Halwai claimed one wicket each.



The final match will be held on Friday.
