KATHMANDU, Dec 6: Kathmanduites haven’t screamed as hard and long as they did Sunday night, welcoming for the first time, internationally acclaimed beat boxing duo Dub FX.

Benjamin Stanford, the street performer and studio recording artiste from Australia, accompanied by his fiancée Shoshana Sadia a.k.a Flower Fairy sure did entertain the crowd gathered at 1905, Kantipath.[break]

Even the December chill did not deter the enthusiasm of the crowd who were cheering the act as the couple launched into various renditions from nursery rhymes to some of their own creations.

Famed for creating rich live music using his vocals aided by live looping and effect pedals, “Dub-step”, the music is a hodge-podge of hip hop, reggae, drum and bass rhythms.

One could not miss the lyrics that addressed various contemporary issues and angst which, laced with infectious beats, were catchy, upbeat and at the same time empowering.

Babin Bajracharya kick started the evening session, followed by the world premier of Albatross’s music video “Chaina”. Talking about the video, the band mentioned that it was shot impromptu during a jamming session. Contributing to the video are the creative minds of Julian James, Anya Vaverko, Spundan and Sid.

However the crux of the biscuit was the headliner act Dub FX himself, whose music elevated the evening to a whole new level. A’cappella mixed with psychedelic, trip-hop sure did get the crowd moving and grooving.

Cramped with locals and foreigners, it was quite evident music makes the people come together. And judging by the reaction of the crowd it sure was mission accomplished for the organizers, kgarira.com that imported the performers coinciding with their first anniversary.
