ILAM, Dec 4: CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet has been elected as the district chairman of the party in Ilam. A secretariat meeting of the party on Saturday decided to hand over the responsibility of district leadership to Basnet, who also held the post of district’s secretary.
According to Secretary Rabindra Subedi, Basnet was elected to the post after outgoing chairman Ram Bahadur Rana Magar was elected as the central member of the party in the 10th General Convention held in Chitwan. Basnet is also the mayor of Ilam Municipality.
The secretariat meeting has also decided to conduct a district-wide training program. Furthermore, the UML district committee has congratulated Subash Chandra Nembang, Member of the House of Representatives and former Speaker, for being elected as the Central Vice-Chairman of the party and Ranamagar as a member of the Provincial Assembly.
