NEPALGUNJ, July 18: All the health facilities based in Banke district have closed their services except emergency for an indefinite period from today at the call of Nepal Medical Association, Bheri Zonal Committee.

The NMA zonal body has decided to close the medical services in protest against abuse on Dr Shyam Sundar Yadav of Janaki Hospital, Nepalgunj. It has accused the local administration of failing to initiate a process of action against 'culprits' in the abuse.

According to NMA zonal coordinator Dr RK Jha, despite the registration of a FIR against five individuals involved in the abuse against Dr Jha and causing damage to the hospital, the local administration has not yet gone into action thus forcing them to take this move. The incident happened on July 12.

The district-based entire medical facilities including the private hospitals and clinics have shut their services except the emergency one.

However, Banke Chief District Officer Rabilal Pantha said it the District Police Office was trying to settle the issue through negotiations.

The closure of medical services has hit patients hard. RSS
