KATHMANDU, July 27: The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu honored Ikramul Hasan Shakil, the first Bangladeshi to successfully complete the Great Himalaya Trail expedition, in a special event.

Shakil covered 1,700 kilometers along the border-to-border trail in an impressive 102 days, starting from the Hilsha border in the west and concluding at the Kanchenjunga base camp in the east. This trail is known to challenge even seasoned mountaineers, and Shakil had to navigate 29 difficult mountain passes, including 14 above 5000 meters in altitude, deemed inaccessible and extremely difficult.

Prior to this feat, Shakil had already conquered several mountains, including Mt. Kayazo Ri (6,186 m), Himlung Himal (7,126 m), and Dolma Khang (6,332 m). Beyond his mountaineering accomplishments, Shakil is an avid travelogue writer and advocates for education in mother languages and environmental conservation.

During the event, Shakil shared his remarkable journey with Embassy officials and expressed his gratitude for their support. Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury presented him with a crest on behalf of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Nepal.
