Bandung notion still relevant and important for world peace and prosperity: Foreign experts

KATHMANDU, April 16: Various foreign experts have underlined the need of effective enforcement of Bandung Conference as it is big milestone to enhance diplomatic relations between Asian and African countries.

The experts said that the relevance of Bandung Declaration is ever-increasing in the changed global context since it had given birth to the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence (Panchasheel) and Non-Aligned Movement,.


The commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference and 10th New Asian-African Strategic Partnership is taking place in Bandung of Indonesia on April 19-25, 2015 with the slogan 'Strengthening South-South Cooperation to Promote Global Peace and Prosperity'.

Talking to RSS in view of the conference, the foreign experts have recommended the need to bring into effect the Bandung Declaration for keeping the spirit of non-aligned movement.

The Bandung Asian-African Conference held In June 1955 called for a peaceful coexistence between nations, for the liberation of the world from the hegemony of any superpower, from colonialism, from imperialism, from any kind of domination of one country by another, and for building solidarity towards the poor, the colonised, the exploited, the weak and those being weakened by the world order of the day, and for their emancipation.

The 10-point declaration adopted by the Conference is globally recognized as Bandung Declaration. The conference is taking palce this time to mark the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the conference.

Nepal's Prime Minister Sushil Koirala is scheduled to take part in the conference which will feature the participation of 150 heads of the states and governments of 150 countries across the globe.

Noted diplomat Bhesh Bahadur Thapa recalled Nepal's bid to expand external relations utilizing the Bandung Conference and its Declaration is important for Nepal as it is the guiding source of Nepal's foreign policy.

He suggested the government to raise the issues of peace, economic progress and sustainable development besides safeguarding national independence.

Foreign expert Hiranya Lal Shrestha said, "Nepal should develop itself as a bridge between the countries of Asia and Africa to make 21st century the era of Asia and Africa".

Another foreign expert Dr Bishnu Hari Nepal stressed that the bandung Conference should come up with a new action plan for the peace as wella s socio-economic transformation of Asian-African nations.

"The South-South unity and cooperation is a must for the third world for mutual prosperity and peace", he added. RSS
