The TU official made the statement after rumor spread that the scheduled exam would be postponed in view of the banda announced by CPN-Maoists demanding that the government withdraw cases of murder and rape during a decade long Maoist insurgency in the country. [break]
Some papers of the ongoing bachelor third year examination across streams are slated for Tuesday as well. The TU Exam Controller Chiranjivi Sharma said though agitators wanted the exams to be postponed, their demand as been denied.
“We don´t want to set a wrong precedent by deferring exams upon the request of any political groups,” said Sharma.
Sharma also criticized the CPN-Maoists for their decision to enforce a nationwide strike at a time that would leave thousands of examinees in the lurch. As many as 250,000 students are appearing in the bachelor third year exams of Science, Humanities, Management and Education faculties at the TU constituent and affiliated colleges across the country.
Meanwhile, the CPN-Maoist aligned All Nepal National Independent Student Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) has said they would allow free passage to the students appearing in the exam on Tuesday.
The ANNISU-R chairman Sarad Rasaili said that banda enforcers would be flexible with the students going to appear in examination on motorcycle and let vehicles to operate between 7 to 10 in the morning to make traveling convenient for the examinees
