The Chhetri Samaj supporters obstructed vehicular movements while market, factories, educational institutions and even government offices couldn´t function normally due to the banda. The Eastern Regional Police Office, Biratnagar said Mechi and Koshi zones were the most affected by the strike.[break]
General Secretary of the Khas-Chhetri Samaj Devendra Dhungana said the banda was enforced as the government reached an agreement with a group of silent spectators and not the agitating ones.
Similarly, the Matrika Yadav led Maoist party and Madhesh Kranti Forum led by Constituent Assembly (CA) member Sanjay Sah had also called strike in the region for Monday.
Meanwhile, our Itahari correspondent reports that various employees´ organizations shut down government offices in Sunsari district Monday demanding the release of staffers involved in recommending citizenship certificate for an Indian national.
Secretary of Jalpapur Village Development Committee (VDC) Bhupal Shrestha and government employee Prakash Phuyal were arrested by police after illegally recommending Jagir Miya of Arariya, Bihar for Nepali citizenship. VDC secretaries shut down offices of all 49 VDCs in the district while District Administration Office, District Development Committee, Land Revenues Office and others in the headquarters also didn´t deliver services.
Police have claimed that the duo were trying to help the Indian acquire a Nepali citizenship by presenting local Maqsood Miya as his father after receiving Indian Rs 35,000 in bribe.
