KATHMANDU, March 15: The Banchare Danda Landfill Affected Area Concern Committee has warned Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) that it will not allow the dumping of waste at the Banchare Danda landfill site.

The Committee has warned that if all their demands are not met by mid-May, they will not allow the KMC to dump garbage at the landfill site.

The coordinator of the Committee, Shree Ram Dhungana and the assistant coordinator Sanat Upreti jointly informed the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Urban Development and KMC through correspondence.

According to a press release, the government of Nepal and the related municipalities, the local authorities, Dhunibeshi Municipality and Kakani Rural Municipality have not been responsible for the livelihood of the locals of the affected areas and the environmental damage caused by the Banchare Danda landfill site.

The committee in the release stated that the government and other authorities involved in disposing of garbage have violated the fundamental rights of the citizens of the area to live in a clean environment. The government has always ignored the serious matter that may lead to a genocide in the area in the coming days. The committee has also alleged that the government has continued to abuse and suppress the area by disposing of the entire garbage of the Kathmandu Valley. The committee has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the government action.
