Ban, in his report submitted to the UN Security Council, has also expressed concerns over the peace process not moving ahead.
“The Secretary-General is not in favor of repeated extensions of the mission´s mandate in an atmosphere of persistent and unfounded criticism that complicates its ability to function. The current situation has not been conducive to sustained engagement over the future of the Mission,” the UNMIN statement said.
Ban has also recommended to the UN Security Council to roll over the current mandate of the UNMIN till a new government is formed, given the situation of the country being ruled by a caretaker government.
He has further said that he would propose alternative measures to the council, including possible termination of UNMIN´s mandate if the discussions on UNMIN´s future, Comprehensive Peace Agreement, Agreement on Management and Monitoring of Armies and Arms (AMMAA) do not reach a logical conclusion.
The Security Council is discussing the report Tuesday.
Ban has also expressed his concerns over lack of progress in addressing the issue impunity for human rights violations.
