However, from the many instances that we have seen, children would seem to benefit from a lot more questions and a lot less support from their parents. While a supportive parent is wonderful to have, blindly taking the side of a child or encouraging him in everything he sees fit to do, won’t always yield tangible results. [break]
Through our Facebook page, Manish Khatiwada states, “I don’t think I would endorse parents’ blind support for their children. I’m in my teens and I’ve seen many cases where parents place a lot of trust in their children but the children fail to come up to the mark. This is especially in the case of money. Children lie about the way they spend their pocket money or money given for important things. They will be spending it with friends and indulging in things they shouldn’t, but they lie about it.”
Parents should note that the trick to supporting their child’s dreams is to understand the importance of keeping the balance. Like Rupak Raj Sunuwar, 22, opines, “I believe parents should be flexible regarding the decisions taken by their children. There should be a mutual understanding and the children’s decisions be furthered before it’s actually implemented.”
It’s imperative that questions be asked, doubts cleared and all other aspects covered before giving encouragement. This will help the dreamer too.
Rupak continues, “I would advise against parents being harsh on children. I think it might lead to a very negative outcome. Today’s youth are far sighted. Their efforts should be seen and supported. Since I’ve been through a similar situation, I would say yes, parents should support their children. However, blind support unwise and should be avoided.”
