Bal Krishna, Keshari set national records in high jump

KATHMANDU, Sept 16: Bal Krishna Chaudhary and Keshari Chaudhary set national records in high jump on Tuesday during the first phase qualifying athletics for the upcoming 11th South Asian Games. [break]



The Armed Police Force (APF) athlete Bal Krishna bettered his own record leaping 1.97 meters high. Earlier, he had set the record in the Fifth National Games with 1.96 meters.







Army man Surya Bahadur Khatri stood second in the event with 1.90 meters jump.



Likewise, Nepal Police Club (NPC) athlete Keshari Chaudhary bettered her own record in high jump by crossing 1.50 meters. Earlier, she had set the official record in the Fifth National Games with 1.48 meters. However, she had unofficial record of 1.55 meters in an open athletics tournament organized by Gorkha Runners Club last year.



Sita Hajam, an athlete from Maoist Militants camp (PLA), jumped 1.35 meters to get second position in the event.







The three clubs of the security forces dominated the second day of the qualifying tournament. Policeman Bidyadhar Chaudhary jumped 6.47 meters to win the long jump in men´s group while Keshari Chaudhary bagged her second title of the day in women´s long jump as she hopped 4.90 meters.



Army man Tikaram Chaudhary finished 400 meters hurdles in 57.53 seconds to win the qualification of first phase while Santosh Shrestha (APF) and Rampreet Chaudhary acquired second and third positions.



Chhaya Khatri of Nepal police won the women´s 800 meters run with the timing of 2 minutes 25.2 seconds while Army man Santa Budha stood first in the same distance run in men´s category. Shanta clocked 1 minute 59.8 seconds.







Raj Kumar Bista from the Nepal Army timed 15 minutes 7.1 seconds to win men´s 5000 meters race. Meanwhile, Krishneshwari Sinthekala (APF) won the title of women 5000 meters with the timing of 19 minutes 19.8 seconds.



Pramila Rijal Chaudhary of APF clocked 26.34 seconds to win the women´s 200 meter race. Police women Sabitri Nepali and Ramita Chaudhary of Mid-western region stood second and third in the dash.



Tilak Ram Mahato was the single Civilian athlete among the title winners. Mahato, from western region, sprinted 200 meters in 22.74 seconds to seize first position in men´s class.
