Speaking to a press meet organized by Reporters´ Club Nepal in Kathmandu on Monday, Thapa said, “If the demands of our committee are not addressed, we will not allow the government to hold the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls stated for November 19.”
Vice coordinator of the Committee Tara Bahadur Basnet has said that government must guarantee proportional representation seats for both Bahun and Kshetri communities in the upcoming poll. “We want the institutionalization of our identity and rights before the polls,” said Basnet.
Coordinator Man Bahadur Thapa has said his committee has formally announced phase-wise movement in the capital starting July 20. “The government must enlist Bahun and Kshetri communities as indigenous groups,” he added. He maintained that the state must recognize the identity of Bahun and Kshetri communities in line with ILO Convention 169.
Committee Vice Chairman Ram Kumar Kshetri said that state restructuring should be done on geographical, historical and natural resources bases. “Restructuring the state on the basis of language and ethnicity would further marginalize the oppressed groups,” said Kshetri.
