“I got inspired by my sister who used to read stories to her blind friend at school,” said Bijay, adding, “She used to read to her friend everyday at recess and that what got me to wonder why there weren’t many book in Braille. In 2008, along with a team of volunteers from YPN, I decided to start the E-Learning Audio Books Initiative Project in hopes of providing free academic audio books for the visually impaired.”

Youth Participation Nepal, funded by Change Fusion Nepal’s Youth Action Fund, plans to sell these audio books to attain self-sustainability for their future projects.

“Badlindo Nepali Samaj” is YPN’s first audio book and is going on sale for Rs 250, and all profits generated from its sales will be utilized to further the E-Learning Audio Books Initiative.

“This is a wonderful start but still more remains to be done,” said Dewan Rai during the launch of the audio book. “We have audio books now but we need to work on making them available to all print-disabled people. We need to get them online so that even people in remote parts of the country can have access to it,” he added.
