BIRGUNJ, Jan 18: Double-murder accused Babban Singh was admitted to a hospital here Sunday night after he complained of illness.
Singh complained of uneasiness in chest and was taken to Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital in the eastern town. He has been kept at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ward under police watch.
Hospital medics said that his condition is normal.On Sunday, the court remanded double murder-accused Babban Singh for three days in judicial custody.
Judge Ajay Raj Upadhyay gave the order after two hours of hearing by both the prosecution and the defense lawyer. Singh who is Constituent Assembly member from Rautahat-1 constituency was taken to District Police Office, Birgunj at 5 p.m. after the court session ended for the day.
Singh is facing charges of murder of businessmen Rajesh Kyal and Jata Shankar Sah (corrected). He has denied involvement in the murders, saying he has become a victim of political prejudice and vendetta.[break]
Meanwhile, Parsa chapter of Nepal Bar Association has decided to file a petition in Appellate Court, Hetauda against the order. According to Sudhir Karna, president of the NBA, Parsa, the bar decided to do so as it feels the arrest of the CA member was not in accordance with the law.
A bench chaired by Judge Upadhyay heard the deliberations for two hours beginning 2.30 p.m. Public Prosecutor (PP) had demanded a remand of seven days.Earlier, he recorded his statement at the Public Prosecutor´s Office, Birgunj. The CA member was arrested on Saturday after he addressed function organized by Madhesi Trade Union Federation in Birgunj.
Police say they have arrested Singh on the basis of statement given by another accused in the murders -- Ful Hasan Ansari ´Bibek´. Ansari has said that the CA member is an accomplice in the murders. The police, referring to Ansari´s statement, say the busnissmen were murdered after they refused to pay the sum demanded of them.
