KATHMANDU, June 4: Former independent lawmaker Baban Singh on Tuesday joined the Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF).

MPRF Chairman Upendra Yadav and leader Bharat Bimal Yadav on Tuesday welcomed Singh, who was elected from number 1 constituency of Rautahat, to MPRF amid a function in the capital.

Similarly, former state minister Ram Chandra Raya, former lawmaker of Sadbhawana Party Mahesh Yadav, General Secretary of Federal Sadbhawana Party Devendra Kumar Yadav, member of Madhesi Civil Society Sitaram Sah, MPRF-Democratic leader Ananda Giri and MPRF-Republican leader Gyasuddin Miyan also joined MPRF. Also, General Secretary of Nepal Karate Association Om Krishna also Prasain joined the Madhes-based political party.

Former senior vice-chairman of Sadbhawana Party-Anandi Devi (SP-A) Bharat Bimal Yadav had joined MPRF last month.

Addressing the function, Singh said he joined MPRF because of the intellectual prowess of Upendra Yadav and the vision and strength of his party.

Singh accused some political parties of being afraid of Yadav.

Addressing the function, MPRF Chairman Yadav claimed that the present technocratic government cannot conduct fresh election. “There will be no election until the Khil Raj Regmi-led government exists,” he claimed.

Yadav also said that the present Interim Election Council has posed an obstacle to the formation of consensus government. He claimed that the Interim Election Council is not doing necessary homework for fresh polls as it is “guided by the UCPN (Maoist)”.

Yadav, who has been demanding dissolution of the High Level Political Committee (HLPC), said that major three political parties--UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML-- have held the country hostage of indecision.

The trend of party defection has seen a rise in the Madhes-based political parties in the recent days as each Madhesi party is trying to strengthen its position.
