DANG/ RUKUM, April 13: At a time when the CPN (Maoist Center) is pressing to legalize decisions taken by the 'people's government' during the Maoist armed insurgency, including the validation of land transactions, the issue has sharply divided the provincial governments of Karnali Province and Province 5.
DANG/RUKUM, Jan 10: Eleven years ago, Mohan KC of Rukum, Banfikot purchased eight ropanis of land from another local Tirtharaj Sharma for Rs 80,000. As the land was passed by the then 'people's government' of Maoist rebels, KC had expected that he won't have to pay tax for the land. To his disappointment, he was handed over with a small chit of paper by one of the Maoist cadres asking him to pay Rs 5,000 for the registration of land.
RUKUM / DANG, Dec 22: After achieving clean sweep victories in the local elections held earlier this year, the elected local representatives from the CPN (Maoist Center) in Rukum made a big decision to validate the conflict-era land transactions carried out by the 'people's government' during the insurgency period.
DANG, July 23: After breaking Rukum in two provinces, the government is still undecided whether to consider it a single district or make it into two different districts. A part of Rukum falls in Province 5 and the rest lies in Province 6 in the new federal set-up.
RUKUM, June 7: The CPN (Maoist Center) has started validating the land transactions carried out under the then 'people's government' run by the former rebels in Rukum district. The land transactions are currently being validated in Banphikot and Sani Bheri rural municipalities of the district and the Maoist Center claims they will do that throughout the district.
DANG/RUKUM, May 22: While the government was preparing to conduct local elections back in 1992, Jhakku Prasad Gharti of Triveni, Rukum, was instructed by his Communist party to protest against the election. The local administration arrested him and put him behind the bars for two months on charge of obstructing the polls.
DANG/RUKUM, Aug 15: He is paralysed on the left side of the body. He cannot walk without crutches. A scar on his head reminds him of the grim days of the Maoist insurgency. Kiran Yogi of Dang was harassed and thrashed by the Maoist rebels for being a 'bourgeois' teacher.
