I attribute this to two major issues: the style of spending and the accountability of government school teachers and staff members. Government spending in any sector typically follows an 80/20 split, with the majority being allocated for recurring expenses like salaries, allowances etc and the rest for development activities. Consequently, teachers and other staff in government schools are paid much higher than their counterparts in many private schools despite consistently poor performance in SEE. Moreover, many of the teachers and staff are representatives of the country's major political parties. While there is nothing wrong with having a political ideology, using it for personal gain at the expense of young minds is nothing less than a crime. This issue transcends beyond the education sector, as politically influenced reporting and consistent poor performance are difficult to break due to labor laws that protect these politically aligned underperformers.

With over 100 ethnic groups practicing over 10 different religions living in complete harmony speaks highly of Nepal’s cultural heritage. This is Nepal’s strength, and this is where investment is needed for sustainable growth to preserve and thrive. We can make Nepal a haven for sustainable tourism and further grow this industry that is already a mainstay of the country’s economy.

When we lose control of a situation, we tend to make hasty decisions that can cast a lasting shadow on our legacy. I have an innate belief that human beings, in general, act on good intentions, and that, nobody purposely jeopardises their state of being even if they are acting in self interest. But I have failed to understand why our government has not relinquished its selfish behaviour for the good of the country even during these difficult times.

Our pathway to prosperity clearly demands solid investments in infrastructure and in identifying key drivers of growth like the potential hub for hydropower generation.
