They use natural materials as much as possible and include traditional local craftsmanship for each of their creations. They also follow slow fashion, where they only make on order. Saving wastage or unwanted stock going to the landfills, they also make made-to-measure catering to all sizes.
- What inspired you to run your business?
My mother has been my biggest inspiration. She manufactures cashmere products for high-end designers in Europe. I have literally seen unique, near to impossible designs made in the factory, and hence this inspired me to start something different too. We are almost one of the first companies in Nepal to bring tie-dye to trendy clothing like dresses, holiday wear and beachwear. We also have a streetwear brand called REBELDE NEPAL, to cater to the youth of the nation.
- What are the key things that help you to be an entrepreneur?
I think one of the main important ingredients is wanting to be different from the rest, finding your own niche. Just doing business for the sake of it does not guarantee long-term success. My determination and understanding of the fact that every day counts are one of the key factors that help me become a true entrepreneur. One has to understand that failure is a step towards success, and never give up just because things are not going your way.
- What can one expect, while at your stall in Brand Nepal?
One could expect trendy & unique garments, including reflection of all skilled artisans who have worked really hard to put each garment together. From the beginning to the end product involves hand stitching, hand printing, or hand-dyeing plus other handwork like pompoms, pearls, and many more.

Newmew
(Ashim Thapa, CEO, and Co-founder)
A Nepalese Eyewear Brand that was started in 2015 by 2 high school friends Ashim and Amar with a capital of 50 k. It’s been a journey of 7 years and we have been able to successfully operate in 9 different outlets over Nepal. The main idea and vision behind Newmew is to bring both eye-fashion and eye-care together for our Nepalese people by creating our own eyewear brands. From providing affordable to premium sunglasses and prescription frames we try our best to cater to the needs of all segment groups of Nepal.
- What inspired you to run your business?
The thought of starting an eye-wear brand came from my own personal experience. Since I was in grade 6, I had an eyesight problem due to which I had to wear prescription frames till my BBA until I did my eye surgery. Even though I did my surgery, I always wanted to make sure that I protect my eyes and realized how important it was to do so. With the same thought process, I came up with the idea to provide protective glasses at an affordable price.
- What are the key things that help you to be an entrepreneur?
Being financially independent at a very young age gave me the key reason to be an entrepreneur. It made me believe in the power of freedom and owning something. The motivation to do something new every day keeps me going.

This is going to be our 1st year with Brand Nepal. I'm excited and extremely grateful to be a part of it. Being a part of this event gives me a feeling of accomplishment as I could establish a Nepalese eye-wear brand. I'm also looking forward to meeting all my fellow entrepreneurs.

Also, a part of the profits still goes out to the education of children in different parts of Nepal. Their products have a one-year warranty and lifetime repair facility at the factory with a nominal charge.
- What inspired you to run your business?
This company was long run by my eldest brother, Barnabas Shrestha (Founder of the company), and was my first ever job before I joined another giant corporate sector. After working many years in the private sector I realized we need to make our own platform for our own Nepali brand which has been in the family for almost three decades. This is how I took the initiative to run this in a better way so that we could create our own Nepali brand.
- What are your challenges in your business?
Lack of consistency in the supply chain and lack of skilled workers are our biggest hindrances at the moment. But as we grow we will find out ways to tackle our current gap.
- How do you overcome your challenges?
We are looking for more alternatives for inventory management and expanding our facilities to cater to our current demand. We are opening new stores in other regions as well so that we can outreach our consumers in other cities of Nepal.

- Why did you choose to be in this business?
While I knew I wanted to do something of my own, I didn't quite know what that thing would be. I along with my friends tried our hands on different things but none of those initial ideas took off the way we would have liked. After helping in my family business, I saw a long-term opportunity in floriculture that too with a modern and innovative twist. Thus, I chose to be in this business to come up as a modern-day garden center that challenges conventional horticulture practices.
- What are the key things that help you to be an entrepreneur?
One of the key things that helped me be an entrepreneur is my learning attitude. Returning to Nepal in 2012 after pursuing a degree in Accounting, I knew I wanted to pursue something of my own. Thus, before starting this business, I started studying floriculture and researched the Nepali market. This research made me realize the loopholes of these sectors, thus giving an idea of how my business can add value to the lives of plant producers to have a wider reach and urban dwellers enjoy plants where they live and work.

Today’s telegram is a young lifestyle brand with core expertise in leather manufacturing for over forty years. Essentially, they are a writing product from the himalayas - ‘you think, we ink.’
- What inspired you to run your business?
It was during the run of a 2 month long backpacking journey in the dunes of Rajasthan whence I realized, in Today’s world, how important a bag had become as a commodity to a person. I keenly observed that whatever one carries in the bag - their laptop, diary, folder, charger, etc is the modern day “Today’s Telegram”. Also, the name altogether served, retained & synced to our core of being a creative writing product.
Coming back with a track and my first 2 bulk orders from UK and NZ in early 2017 - I prepped and aspired to cater my dad’s 40 year long leather manufacturing expertise into creative and functional end-products from the himalayas. Essentially, we were inspired to craft an art in the bag.
