Australia to double foreign assistance to Nepal

KATHMANDU, April 5: Australia is committed to increase its foreign assistance to double of the current level by 2015.



According to the press statement issued by the foreign affairs advisor to Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, the announcement was made in a courtesy call of Australian ambassador to Nepal Susan Grace to the PM at the latter´s residence on Tuesday. [break]



Ms Grace informed that the main areas of cooperation of her country would be in health and education.



PM Khanal expressed his gratitude to the envoy for the development assistance provided by Australian government including forestry development and recently constructed National Emergency Operation Centre under the Home Ministry.



The PM apprised the ambassador on the current peace and constitution process and explained that all major decisions will be taken by consensus in the process.



PM Khanal recalled his earlier phone conversation with Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd and extended his invitation to him and the Australian PM to visit Nepal. Envoy Grace expressed her gratitude and informed that Minister Rudd was interested in visiting Nepal in the future.
