Abducted child murdered; kidnappers shot dead

The body of 11-year-old Nishan Khadka was found  in an under-construction building near Thimi. The child was kidnapped yesterday evening when he had gone to play with his friends. Gopal Tamang and Ajaya Tamang of around 27 years were shot dead in an encounter with police.

SC overturns govt’s decision, reinstates TUSC member

Issuing an interim order, a single bench hearing of Justice Dipak Kumar Karki at the Supreme Court has reinstated Tribhuvan University Service Commission (TUSC) member Chintamani Pokhrel on Monday.

NC decries PHSC decision

The main opposition party, the Nepali Congress, has announced it would reject the decision made by the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee last Friday. Speaking at the start of the House of Representatives' meeting today, Nepali Congress lawmaker Gyanendra Bahadur Karki charged that the Committee had decided to announce the justice proposed for appointment to the post of Chief Justice disqualified without any ground. 

Armies from 20 countries convene in Nepal for 14 days drill

An exercise of high-ranking military officials from 20 countries has started here aimed at how the information flow could be systematised maintaining contact with multi-national armies while deploying in humanitarian rescue at times of disaster. The exercise is organised by the Nepalese Army with cooperation of the US Army's Pacific Command.

At least 40 shot and four killed in a night of Chicago gun violence

At least 40 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend during the seven hours from midnight Saturday to early Sunday morning, with four fatalities, city police said on Sunday, a stark violent streak in a city where authorities say gun violence has been decreasing this year.
