Athletes off to China

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Middle distance runners Hari Kumar Rimal and Bishwa Rupa Budha on Wednesday left for Guiyang, China, to compete in World Cross Country Championship to be held there on Saturday. Hari and Bishwa Rupa both represent Tribhuvan Army Club in the domestic level. Hari will compete in men's 12 km race and Bishwa Rupa in women's eight km race. The duos were selected on the basis of their results of the Kantipur Half Marathon and Adidas Road Race held within last four months. Both the athletes have secured first positions in their respective categories held in the capital. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama and Nepal Athletics Association President Rajiv Bikram Shah bade farewell to the team on Wednesday.


Nepali sambo players to compete in world c'ship

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Sambo players Gopal Bohara and Daplu Ghising are all set to compete in the Kharlampiev Memorial World Sambo Championship to be held on Russia from March 26 to 30. Gopal is competing in men's U-56 kg category and Daplu U-67 kg category. The martial arts players are accompanied by Pratap Ghising, the vice president of Nepal Sambo Association who will also perform the role of judge in the championship. All of them left for Russia on Wednesday. National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama among other bade farewell to the team ahead of their departure at the NSC premises.
