KATHMANDU, Jan 13: At least five people were killed and several others injured after a passenger bus skidded off the bridge and plunged into Rapti River in Bhaluwang, Dang on Friday night.


The ill-fated bus with the registration number Bhe 1 Kha 3912 was en route to Kathmandu from Nepalgunj.

"Five of those travelling on the bus have been confirmed killed. Five others are trapped on the wreckage of the bus. Their health condition is critical. We are trying to rescue them," said Chief District Officer of Dang Ram Bandhu Subedi.


At least 26 others are injured in the accident. They are undergoing treatment at hospitals in Bhaluwang and Lamahi. The identity of those killed in the accident is yet to ascertained.
