Indonesia will organise the fifth AMCDRR. The declaration has mainly focused on the establishment of a climate resilient disaster risk management system by 2015 that will contribute to sustainable development at the regional, national and community level. [break]
This is the first time that the Asian governments have agreed at a regional level to recognize disaster risk reduction as a main tool to fight climate change and adopt a common regional climate risk management approach to mitigate the impacts of water related disasters.
The action plan has been divided into two phases: Short term plan of two years and the long term of five years.
Responding to a query raised by RSS in the post conference press meet, Yeon Soo Park, the chief of main organiser (National Emergency Management Agency of South Korea) said "Now we have a strong common platform to work for any kind of disaster risk reduction. The Himalayan countries like Nepal and Bhutan can also be benefited by our common efforts. We are very much concerned about the effects of climate change in the Himalaya."
