KATHMANDU, Feb 1: Renowned artist and ornithologist Hem Poudel has passed away. Poudel, who was battling heart and kidney diseases, died at Gangalal Hospital on Wednesday at the age of 83.
Writer Nibandha Acharya informed that a tribute meeting for Poudel is scheduled for today at 9 AM. He is survived by a son and a daughter. His spouse, Ganga Paudel, is a prominent figure in Nepali literature. In a generous final gesture, his body has been donated to Maharajgunj Teaching Hospital.

Poudel, the husband of Ganga Karmacharya Poudel, who is the patron of Kapanabaneshwar National Literary Weekly, will be honored at Shahid Gangalal Hospital before 9 o'clock this morning. Subsequently, his body will be transferred to Maharajgunj Teaching Hospital at 10 AM, as per his wishes for body donation, instead of the traditional rites at Pashupati.
Hem Poudel, celebrated for painting over 600 bird species in the country, was deeply committed to his art. He was an advocate for environmental protection, often using his paintings to raise public awareness. Through his depiction of birds and their habitats, he conveyed a powerful message of conservation.
In an era marked by rampant industrialization, urbanization, global warming, and the pursuit of material progress, Poudel consistently used his art to advocate for environmental preservation.
