For Nepalis, India provides many quick holiday options. From alluring hill stations to hot dessert landscapes, India has something for all kinds of travelers. And each places comes with it unique culture, history, and cuisines making them all equally exciting vacation spots. The Week spoke to some people to find out which is that one place in India that they love and would like to revisit and why.

Barsha Ghimire

No matter where I go in India, I make sure to include a few days in Goa. I love the beach and the feeling that washes over me when I hear the waves crashing against the shore. Arambol beach is my favorite beach there. I usually find a quiet spot to sit, relax and watch people carrying about their beach activities. I would recommend people to stay in a beach hut instead of at a hotel as it is a better experience. This way, watching the sunsets and sunrises also becomes easier. I also like hiking to the Maynapi waterfall. The waterfalls are really beautiful and not many people do this hike making the trail quiet and peaceful. Food wise too, Goa is delightful. Ros omelette is a late evening snack that most people like to eat before starting their night. It is a gravy omelette that’s really nice. I also like munching on chili pakora and clam curry that is only served early in the morning.

Ang Tshiring Sherpa

Ooty is by far one of the best places I have been to in India. It’s perfect for people who want to feel close to nature. I especially like horseback riding on the trails next to the artificial lake. Boating in the lake itself is an experience on its own. My friends and I would pack a picnic and eat while leisurely boating around. Another thing I don’t miss out while in Ooty is the Nilgiri express – a train that goes through bridges, tunnels, and curves with stunning scenery in the backdrop. The rose garden is another one of my favorite places that has lots of hybrid flowers, miniature flowers, black and green roses and many other unique varieties of roses. It is spread across a vast plot of land and is one of largest rose gardens in the country. Also make sure that while in Ooty you feast on dark chocolate that it is famous for.

The street food in Mumbai is perhaps one of those things that make me want to keep going back to the place. Pav Bhaji is one of my favorite snacks and although I have tried it at many places in India, nothing compares to the one at Sardar’s that is only a few minutes walk from the central station. Another snack you must have while in Mumbai is the Vada Pav, a well buttered, flavorsome but not too spicy snack that you can grab and walk around while eating. My favorite thing to do in Mumbai is to walk around Marine drive and sip on tender coconut juice. I have also been to see a few celebrities’ houses in Mumbai but didn’t manage to get a glimpse of them. You should see the crowd gathered in front of Salman Khan’s house. That in itself is worth watching.

I went to Ahmedabad once and I would like to go back again, especially now that Kathmandu has become so polluted. The once polluted Sabarmati River has been cleaned up so efficiently that the old city on the eastern banks of the river has become one of the central attractions. While here, I believe, you shouldn’t miss out on the Gujrati Thali. This thali covers a wide range of Gujrati cuisine, making it easier for you to taste every delicacy the city has to offer. The Law Garden night market is a fun place that comes alive every night with countless stalls of traditional ethnic attires available for purchase, and mouth watering street food.

When I think about vacations, the trip I went on with my father a couple of years ago is what comes to my mind. One of the places we went to was the Ajanta caves in Maharashtra, which simply took my breath away. The ritualistically decorated caves have Buddhist monuments that are just marvelous. You have to give credit to the people who could craft such masterpieces without heavy machinery and elaborate equipment. My father calls it one of the engineering marvels of the world and I agree with him and would love to go back there. I think Maharastra is also a foodies’ paradise. I really like Keema Pav in Maharashtra. I had it almost everyday throughout my trip.

Aastha Khanal

I recently graduated from college in Mangalore and I know that it is the one place in India I will keep revisiting for the rest of my life. The first beach I went to and then kept going back to was the Panambur beach. It isn’t as crowded as the other beaches around the city and was the perfect place for a relaxing stroll at the end of a long week. Another beach I loved was the Surathkal beach, mostly because of the very powdery sand that made walking in the beach really fun. My favorite food while there was the Crab Ghee Roast. It is one of the best seafood delicacies I have ever had and I would like all my friends and relatives to sample this dish while in Mangalore, and maybe bring back some for me as well.

Saugat Rimal

I went to Rajasthan a few years ago and would like to travel there again. Of all the things I did while I was there, I would recommend the desert camping, the hot air balloon ride, going on a camel safari and riding an SUV on the dunes of the Thar desert. I saw a camel for the first time and riding one turned out to be enjoyable than I thought. The frontward and backward movement of the camel is calming and, though it can be a little scary, you’ll definitely enjoy it a lot. The desert camping includes puppet shows and authentic meal and the hot air balloon rides give a bird’s eye view of the overall city and the structures and greenery that surround it. One of the places I really loved was The Stag Café in Amer that is right opposite a fort and gives you exquisite views of the fort as well as many photo ops.
