Nepal Army has been celebrating Army Day on the day of Mahashivaratri, a Hindu festival devoted to Lord Shiva.
In various times of history, Nepal Army has shown exemplary feat to protect Nepal´s independence and sovereignty.
Nepal Army protected Nepal from being a colony among south Asian countries when the British had ruled the roost in the region.
NA´s present shape has been said to be initiated since 1819 BS. The army has a total strength of 95,000 at present.
NA has been successful in establishing the fact that it can work in any part of the world in collaboration with armies of other countries in the international arena.
NA has been working in peacekeeping missions since 1958 and some 95,000 personnel have already participated in it. Moreover, some 58 have sacrificed their lives and equal number was seriously injured.
NA is involved in some 13 missions worldwide in UN and some 3,570 have been working in them.
The national army has been working for the safeguard of sovereignty, for disaster management and in development works.
It has been providing training for making relations with citizens stronger and adopting zero tolerance for abiding by human rights, said NA spokesman Suresh Sharma.
