Army becomes team champion

KATHMANDU, April 11: Nepal Army became the team champion of the 38th National Athletics Championship on Thursday as it clinched 12 gold, 12 silver and 7 bronze medals.



Nepal Police Club became second in the championship with 9 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze medals while Armed Police Force finished third with 7 gold, 8 silver and 8 bronze medals. Among the regions, Mid Western remained on the top claiming 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.[break]



On the final day of the championship, Police Club´s Yam Sajan Sunar won gold medal in men´s 200m sprint on Thursday with a timing of 22.2 seconds. Dil Maya Karki of APF stood on the top of the victory stand in women´s 200m with the timing of 26.0 seconds while Army´s Moti Lal Bohara clocked 1 minute 57.9 seconds to win men´s 800m.



APF athlete Kanchhi Maya Koju (37:25.5) and army man Raj Kumar Bista (31:59.5) clinched gold medals in 10km race of men´s and women´s sections respectively.



Army´s Dilli Khatri jumped 14.13m to become the winner in men´s triple jump and his teammate Tara Bahadur Karki clinched gold medal in men´s discuss throw. He threw discuss to a 36.45m distance. Likewise, Hiran Chaudhary of Nepal Police threw discuss to a 31.20m distance to win women´s discuss throw event.
