KATHMANDU, May 1: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Shekhar Koirala has termed today’s appointment of IGP of Nepal Police by his own party-led government as “a mockery of law”.
Criticizing the Cabinet’s decision over social media today, Koirala said that the decision of the government to appoint an IGP of Nepal Police by violating the priorities and procedures was a mockery of the rule of law.
"This decision by the government has once again brought the entire police force into controversy," he tweeted.
Sunday's cabinet meeting has appointed Dhiraj Pratap Singh as the Inspector General of Nepal Police although he was ranked third in terms of seniority. AIGs Bishwa Raj Pokharel, Rabindra Dhanuk including Dhiraj Pratap Singh were in the race for Nepal police chief.
As per Rule 41 of the Police Regulations-2014, the government may promote a candidate from AIG to the post of Inspector General of Police.
