APF, Police to battle it out for titles

KATHMANDU, Sept 6: The title deciders of the First NVA Cup National Club Volleyball Championship will be all-departmental affairs. Departmental giants Nepal Police Club and Armed Police Force (APF) will battle it out for the title in both men´s and women´s sections.



Police and APF continued their winning runs in the tournament with victories in the semifinals played on Thursday at the covered hall of Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar. The finals of both categories will be held on Friday.[break]



In the first semifinal of the men´s section, APF recorded a comfortable victory over G-Four Sports Club of Dolakha. APF edged past G-Four 25-19, 25-21, 25-23 in straight sets. Milan Malla of APF won the man-of-the-match award.



In the second semifinal of men´s section, Police was taken to four sets by arch rival Nepal Army Club. Police won the first two sets with identical scores of 25-17. But Army bounced back in the third set to take it 25-22. However, Police took the fourth set 25-15 to seal its place in the final. Sanjay Aryal of Police was declared the man-of-the-match.



In the girls´ semifinals, both Police and APF achieved straight set victories. Police defeated Western Regional Volleyball Training Center 25-19, 26-24, 25-15. Kopila Upreti of the winning team was declared the woman-of-the-match. Similarly, APF edged past New Diamond 25-22, 26-24, 25-18. Reshma Bhandari of APF was adjudged the woman-of-the-match.



The third-place playoffs will also be held on Friday.
