GANDAKI, Oct 6: The number of tourists arriving in the Annapurna Conservation Area, renowned for trekking, has started to increase. In the past three months, 34,651 foreign tourists have visited the Annapurna area.
According to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), the number of tourists has increased to 23,088 in September, while 5,249 tourists visited the area last July. The number of foreign tourists arriving in this area was 6,314 in August.
Annapurna Circuit sees surge in arrival of tourists
According to Dr Rabin Kadaria, the head of the ACAP, most tourists visit the Annapurna area in September and October. Among the foreign tourists who arrived in September, there were 11,682 from South Asian countries and 11,406 from other countries. In August, 3,383 tourists from the SAARC region and 2,931 tourists from other countries visited the ACAP. Similarly, 3,350 people from the SAARC region and 1,893 people from other countries visited the area in July.
Additionally, popular tourist destinations within the ACAP include the Annapurna Base Camp, Mardi Himal, Ghandruk, Sikles, Khumai Danda, Tilicho Lake in Manang, Thorong Bhanjyang, Upper Mustang, Muktinath, and Ghodepani in Myagdi. Domestic tourists also tend to visit these areas during this season.
In the last fiscal year, a total of 222,180 foreign tourists visited this area, including 117,845 tourists from Asian countries and 104,256 from other countries.
