KATHMANDU, Aug 27: In the wake of the devastating Bhotekoshi flash flood, Ravi Lamichhane, the President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, called for an urgent all-party meeting at Singh Durbar today.
The main goal of this gathering was to boost search and rescue operations, along with relief and rehabilitation efforts for the districts hit hardest, including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Chitwan, and Nawalparasi districts.
Participants stressed the importance of unity among political parties, emphasizing that support for disaster victims should rise above political differences and not be used for personal gain. The meeting conveyed heartfelt condolences for the lives lost and the property destroyed, while attendees urged everyone to actively engage in rescue and relief efforts.

A strong call was made for transparency in financial donations, directing contributions solely to the official 'Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund' or other designated government accounts.
The responsible use of social media was also a key point, with a request for citizens and media outlets to share only verified information to avoid spreading misinformation that could heighten community anxiety and undermine the dignity of those affected.
Furthermore, the meeting highlighted the need for scientific research on glaciers and urged the government to conduct a thorough study and mapping of hazardous glaciers in Nepal. It also called for diplomatic discussions with China to tackle cross-border glacier risks and recommended establishing a robust disaster management system, especially for vulnerable groups like women, children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities.
The meeting aimed to raise awareness among international partners about climate justice and the urgent need for support in light of the challenges faced by Nepal.
Key political leaders, including Gagan Kumar Thapa of the Nepali Congress, Pushpa Kamal Dahal of the Nepali Communist Party, Shankar Pokhrel of the CPN (UML) among others were present at the meeting.
