All member states confirm their participation

KATHMANDU, Aug 23:  All member states of BIMSTEC have confirmed their participation in the Fourth Summit and the meetings preceding it. According to a press statement issued by MoFA on Wednesday, President Bidya Devi Bhandari will meet leaders of BIMSTEC member states and host a luncheon in their honor on August 30.

KATHMANDU, Aug 23:  All member states of BIMSTEC have confirmed their participation in the Fourth Summit and the meetings preceding it. According to a press statement issued by MoFA on Wednesday, President Bidya Devi Bhandari will meet leaders of BIMSTEC member states and host a luncheon in their honor on August 30. 


Those confirming participation include Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed, Bhutanese Chief Justice Chhiring Wangchuk, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Myanmar President Win Myint, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Prime Minister KP Oli will chair the summit, which will review the progress achieved so far in the areas of cooperation and provide guidance to the future work of the organization. The prime minister will host a dinner with cultural program in the same evening. 


Nepal assumed the chairmanship of BIMSTEC after its Third Summit meeting held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar in March 2014. 


The top leaders will witness the signing ceremony of the legal instrument of BIMSTEC and consider the draft of the Kathmandu Declaration of the Summit on August 31. Prior to the summit, the Nineteenth Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) and the Sixteenth Ministerial Meeting of BIMSTEC will be held on 28th and 29th August respectively, in Kathmandu, MoFA said.
