The Alka Hospital issuing a press statement on Tuesday said the government authorities including Health Minister Umakanta Chaudhary, District Public Health Officer Dr Krishnahari Subedi and CDO Khyam B Thapa who went for inspection to Jajarkot had assured the team that they would be brought to Nepalgunj, but the doctors are still stranded in the epidemic hit areas.
The hospital said that as per the direction of the government, the team stayed back till the epidemic was brought under control. But no effort has been made to bring the team back.
The 15 doctors from Alka Hospital, Jawalakhel, were deployed at Dandaguan, Pajaru, Bhagawati Majhkot and Kahina VDCs. They have treated around 500 patients since the last two weeks.
The press release further claimed that when the team wanted to return about a week ago, the Health Minister had requested it to stay back stating that its services was required in Jajarkot. He, however, had committed that the government would arrange for their return.
It is learnt that the team has been facing acute shortage of food. It takes 4 to 6 days to reach Nepalgunj from the villages where the doctors are deployed.
Health Secretary Dr Sudha Sharma claimed that the Alka team was not deployed by the government and that the team had gone to the diarrhea affected areas on their own volition. "I can´t comment on it as I don´t know what sort of arrangements they had with the District Public Health Administration there," Dr Sharma told myrepublica.com.
