KATHMANDU, July 8: The frequency of road accidents in Nepal has reached a distressing level. As per the three-month progress report released by the Nepal Police on Friday, a staggering 581 individuals lost their lives in vehicle accidents during this period.
From March 29 to June 30, a total of 6,420 vehicle accidents were recorded by police. Nepal Police Headquarters reported that among the victims, 581 succumbed to their injuries, while another 1,627 individuals are in critical condition. Additionally, 6,721 people sustained various degrees of injuries.
When will it end?
Throughout this three-month period, police enforced legal actions against 736,470 vehicles. Consequently, the police department has collected a revenue of 564.6 million rupees from these incidents.
DIG Kuber Kadayat, the central spokesperson of the police, highlighted that the rise in fatalities is attributed to significant traffic accidents occurring in recent months. He also noted that this year has witnessed a higher incidence of vehicle accidents compared to the previous year, although the number of fatalities is slightly lower compared to the same period last year.
