Alam has been framed, argues Alam's lawyer Raman Shrestha
A cabinet meeting held on Friday night took the decision to this effect.
Ministry of Home Affairs has already formed a five-member committee to probe into Alam’s killing. The committee led by Superintendent of Police Resh Kumar Yamsu of Armed Police Force is mandated to submit a report to the government within 15 days of starting the investigation.
Locals have claimed the hand of Indian sharpshooters behind Alam’s murder. Four armed men, who allegedly came from a neighboring Indian town on two motorcycles bearing Indian number plates, had opened fire at Alam on Thursday when he was heading home for lunch riding pillion on a motorcycle after a meeting at the school.
The incident site, Bhutaha, lies some eight kilometers from the Nepal-India border.
Meanwhile, the cabinet promoted senior police officials Pushkar Karki, Thule Rai and Dhiru Basnet to the post of Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police upon recommended from the Ministry of Home Affairs. Karki has been assigned to head the Crime Investigation Bureau at the police headquarters whereas Rai will look after Human Resource Department. Basnet has been named as the head of Nepal Police Academy.
